SANTIAGO.- The undersecretary of Police, Javiera Blanco, asserted today that the government plans to support any decision taken by the families of the victims of the helicopter accident that occurred in Panama. Six Chileans died in this accident, including the Director General of uniformed police, José Alejandro Bernales.
In a conversation with El Mercurio, Blanco maintained that although “it is a bit premature to predict what decisions will be made”, the possibility of a lawsuit cannot be ruled out “because the families always have a right to take legal action.”
She specified that a meeting will be held today at the level of the State Department with the lawyers of the families in order to coordinate the measures to be taken. “The idea is to have the meetings in unison, not separately, the plan is to take action as a group, all together”, she emphasized.
However, she did clarify that the Executive branch has been satisfied with how the Caribbean nation has managed the situation, stressing the rapid and transparent manner in which the Panamanian authorities have turned over information.
