SANTIAGO.- Hoping that the Supreme Court of the Socialist Party (PS) will not sanction him for supporting the PC candidate in Estación Central, Senator Alejandro Navarro has reiterated his support for Hugo Gutiérrez and assures that there are congressional resolutions within the party that back his decision.

According to Navarro, “the Supreme Court of the party is part of the political board” and therefore, “its work cannot be focused on prosecuting members, but rather is aimed at fortifying electoral work on- the- ground”.

Navarro warns that when a party becomes a “regime”, “the very essence of politics” is denied and “it ends up falling victim to abuses that take away from its objective”.

Concerning the criticism that he received from the vice president of the DC, Jorge Burgos, who asked him to make an honest man out of himself and leave the Concertación because “he has had one foot outside of the group for a long time”, Navarro emphatically responded, “no one is going to take away the fact that I am a socialist”.
