SANTIAGO.- Only 24 hours before the General Education Law (LGE) is scheduled to be voted on tomorrow, the Assembly of University and High School Students (ACEUS) has already announced three municipal marches to protest tomorrow in Maipú, Puente Alto and near the Los Héroes subway station.
The idea to hold three separate demonstrations instead of a unified one is geared towards protesting in different areas of the capital city so that students from all parts of Santiago can participate.
This is what has been planned for the “Revolución Pinguina II”, which is being organized by ACEUS leaders: 17 year-old Javiera Campos, 17 year-old Alejandra Leyton and 25 year-old Rodrigo Soto. There had previously been four leaders, however Amador Sepúlveda left his position in an effort to empower and allow other members of the organization to step forward.
The three student leaders assert that the new coalition is an “improved version” of the group that was formed in 2006 and has indicated that the main difference from their predecessors is the notion that now decisions will be made by the students and not by political parties.
