LOS ANDES. -  Intense snowfall and wind have forced the Department of Transit to close the Los Libertadores mountain pass, beginning at 7:30 AM today.

The decision means that all classes of motor vehicles are prohibited from entering.

In addition to the snowfall, another reason for the closure was the decreased visibility, which is reportedly only 50 meters, while temperatures have dipped to -5ºC.

The Meteorological Department of Chile has forecasted cloudy skies and light rain showers for the town of Los Andes today.
