MADRID- According to the Spanish newspaper “El Mundo”, José Ignacio de Juana Chaos, one of the most brutal terrorists in the history of the Basque Separatist Organization (ETA), is currently in South America after being released from a Spanish prison on August 2nd of this year following 18 years of incarceration.
De Juana is either in Brazil, Argentina or Chile according to the periodical, which cites its information as being from anti-terrorism coalition sources. On Saturday, August 2nd, the former chief of ETA´s “commando Madrid”, one of the bloodiest factions in the history of the violent Basque group, De Juana was released from the Aranjuez Prison in Madrid after completing his sentence.
A week later, De Juana, whose face is widely recognized by Spaniards, flew from Biarritz, in the south of France, to Paris where he boarded a plane to one of the three aforementioned nations.
After his arrest in 1987, the now 52 year-old De Juana was sentenced to spend 3,000 years in prison for 25 murders in 11 terrorist attacks that took place during the 1980s.
