SANTIAGO.- The Chamber of Deputies has unanimously approved the creation of an Investigative Commission, which was requested by UDI party Deputy Gonzalo Arenas, to determine who is responsible for the failure to distribute electricity subsidies.  According to information from the Electricity and Fuel Supervisor, there are currently more than one million Chilean citizens that have still not received the benefit, which was announced in 2007.

Deputy Arenas explained that the commission will have a period of 35 days to produce a report concerning those who are responsible for the distribution of electrical subsidies.

“Someone is not telling the truth, we want transparency, we want to know where these one million subsidies that have yet to be distributed are”, asserted Arenas.

According to Deputy Arenas, the matter is one of inexcusable negligence, “they are laughing at the poorest of the poor, this subsidy does not go out to 40% of the poorest citizens, but rather has only managed to cover 15% of the most economically marginalized Chileans and that is what we want to clarify with the investigative commission”, he stated.
