SANTIAGO.- A 27 year-old woman from Curicó, identified as Viviana Agurto, has been listed as the national priority for a liver transplant after being diagnosed with a sudden and potentially fatal case of hepatitis.
The young woman was 35 weeks pregnant when she became nauseous and began vomiting, which prompted her to seek medical assistance from the Curicó Hospital. There, she was diagnosed with symptoms that did not solely pertain to her late stage of pregnancy and was sent to a clinic in Santiago.
At the clinic, the woman was diagnosed with an acute case of hepatitis and, after giving birth to her third son only five days ago, fell into a deep state of a coma, making her a national priority to receive a new liver.
According to Radio Cooperativa, the woman has two other children – ages one and six. The six year old reportedly called on the public to assist in the organ donation for his mother: "I hope that someone with a good heart will help my mother so she can come home soon and take care of my two brothers", the child pleaded.
