SANTIAGO.- Despite the fact that Transantiago is one of the flanks that has been chosen by the Alianza to hinder the presidential aspirations of Ricardo Lagos, the former President has once again defended the design of the transportation system, attributing problems to the implementation of the plan, a phase he claims he took no part in.
"One responsibility is for the design of the plan, which all international authorities have applauded, but the way in which it was implemented or whether it was implemented prematurely, that has nothing to do with me", stated Lagos.
During an interview with Radio ADN, the ex President stressed that the Minister of Transportation, René Cortázar, can now issue an ultimatum for the operating companies that are not abiding by their contracts, because only recently has technology allowed for analysis of the behavior of the buses - an aspect that was a fundamental part of putting the plan into action.
When asked whether President Michelle Bachelet should not have initiated the implementation of Transantiago, the former Chief of State said that his impression was that her administration should not have, but claimed that the President's advisors thought otherwise.
