SANTIAGO.- Just hours after his party considered the possibility of filing a constitutional incompliance charge against the Minister of Transportation, René Cortázar, stemming from the current controversy over Transantiago funding, UDI Senator Hernán Larraín stated that it is necessary to do away with the system all together.
"We have been at this for more than a year and a half and the truth is that it doesn't work. It has failed and it is time to say no more Transantiago, no more humiliation, no more delays. I would put an end to Transatiago as soon as possible", Larraín stated during an interview with Radio ADN while adding that the plan is "beyond repair".
Larraín's statements support the stance of Alianza senators, who have already announced that they will vote against the bill presented by the Executive Branch to offer a permanent subsidy to the transportation plan.
For Larraín, the solution to the problems that have been caused by the implementation of Transantiago is to undergo a new and even more radical change and return to the former "yellow bus" routes and continue with the use of the BIP! cards as a method of payment.
