SANTIAGO.- National Police officers from the 18th Police Station of Ñuñoa have seized "Molotov" bombs and bomb-making materials at the entrance to the Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación (UMCE), formerly known as the "Pedagógico", located on José Pedro Alessandri street.
According Police Major Jorge Alvarado, the discovery was made at 3:00 PM yesterday after several confrontations with some 80 hooded individuals.
15 Molotov bombs ready for use were found at the site, along with a bag of sawdust and a barrel of gasoline, which according to reports, was to be used to manufacture more incendiary explosives.
"We are talking about anarchist and libertarian groups, made up of students and alumni from the educational institution, and they are using boleadoras (strung rock weapons) and slingshots to confront authorities", stated Major Alvarado.
Alvarado added that during recent altercations, pamphlets and signs referring to a "black September" have been found after being thrown by hooded individuals.
As a result, the police chief said that in order to prevent rioting, security measures will be doubled in the area with the help of additional police officers, as well as members of the Armed Forces.
