SANTIAGO.- Serious damages to public and private property, an injured policeman and a Transantiago bus attacked with stones were just some of the violent acts carried out last night in different parts of the city.

The events took place in the neighborhoods of La Pincoya in Huechuraba, Lo Hermida in Peñalolén and at the intersection of Huelén and Mapocho, in Cerro Navia.

According to Radio Cooperativa, hooded individuals and delinquents set up burning barricades, interrupting transit and obligating the Police Special Forces to disperse in order to contain the mayhem.

One of the most severe incidents occurred in the La Pincoya sector, where a hooded group stoned a Transantiago bus as well as various commercial centers, confronting police until the early hours of the morning.

In Cerro Navia, a Police Special Forces officer ended up with minor injuries after being hit with a rock. He was taken to the Institucional Hospital, and was released this morning.

Major Rodrigo Salazar maintained that the majority of the protestors are minors who take advantage of this time of year to create disorder on the streets.
