SANTIAGO.- According to a study performed by the Intelligence Department of The Economist, and sponsored by Business Software Alliance (BSA), Chile currently occupies the 30th position of a global competitiveness ranking for the Information Technology (IT) sector.
The country climbed one slot compared to 2007 and is positioned 3rd in the Americas, coming in behind the United States (Nº1 in the world) and Canada (Nº6 in the world).
This second version of the study evaluates and compares various characteristics of the Information Technology industry in 66 countries worldwide in order to determine how well they are fostering competitiveness within the sector. The study analyzes six categories, which are both qualitative and quantitative, and then issues percentage value for each nation.
The best evaluated category for Chile was that of "general business atmosphere", where the country was ranked fifth in the world, surpassed only by Hong Kong, the USA, Ireland, Denmark and the United Kingdom.
