SANTIAGO.- The Autopista Maipo could face significant traffic problems on Sunday, September 21st, as thousands of vehicles return to the capital city after the long weekend in observation of the National Holidays.
This was the indication given this morning by the operations manager for the concessionary firm, Miguel Godoy, who stated during an interview with Radio ADN that even though officials will be working at maximum capacity, problems can be expected near the Angostura Tunnel.
"Due to the fact that there was a weekend before, there shouldn't be any problems today. We are expecting the most significant amount of traffic on Sunday, when those who left on the 12th and 13th, as well as those are leaving today return", he asserted.
"At the Angostura toll both, considering the tunnel, we are going to have significant amounts of traffic, which is why we are calling on travellers to plan their trip ahead, and if possible try to return on Saturday", Godoy added.
The operations manager explained that in the case of Route 5, "there are no alternative roads", insisting upon the need for travellers to plan ahead in order to avoid "uncomfortable situations, which is what will occur if everyone tries to return at the same time".
