SANTIAGO.- The match victory over Australia, which allowed Chile to return to the Davis Cup World Group and featured Fernando González (ATP Nº11) as a star player is now over, but González is still in action.
Now, Chile's number one player will have to continue his winning streak at the China Open in Beijing, where, this Thursday at 7 AM local time, he will debut on the same court where he was awarded a silver medal at this year's Olympic Games.
For the first time, González has been scheduled to face Japanese player Go Soeda (ATP Nº 130) on the tournament's main court.
The La Reina native is currently defending 175 points after winning the tournament championship in 2007 where he defeated Spanish player Tommy Robredo (Nº16) in the finals with a score of 6-1, 3-6 and 6-1.
If González is able to beat his Japanese counterpart, he will go on to face the winner of a match between German Bjorn Phau (Nº 137) and either Sam Querrey (Nº39) or Jesse Levine (Nº95), following the confrontation between the two American players.
