SANTIAGO.- It had been speculated and has now been confirmed. Fernando Carvallo resigned from the Universidad Católica soccer team after the club was eliminated from the Copa Sudamericana yesterday.

According to the club's official website, "the Universidad Católica Athletic Foundation announces that Mr. Fernando Carvallo has resigned from his position as coach of the professional soccer team".

The site adds that "the decision is mutual and stems from the fact that the match results do not coincide with the objectives set at the beginning of the season and from situations that directly affect the work of Mr. Carvallo".

The note indicates that "the position of coach of the Professional Soccer Team of the Universidad Católica Athletic Club will be filled internally by Mr. Mario Lepe, who is a member of the football training coaching staff and was, until today, the coach of the Sub 17 division, as well as an outstanding player for our institution".
