SANTIAGO.- The President of the Republic, Michelle Bachelet, reiterated today that the country is in good shape to face the potential impacts of the crisis that is currently affecting international markets.

During an interview with the morning show  "Buenos Días a Todos" on TVN, the President stated that "definitive conclusions" should still not be made since, even though the U.S. financial bailout plan has been approved, "this is a process that has not finished".

"We are in the middle of a situation that is still developing. We shouldn't make any definitive conclusions here, because this is a process that has not finished, one that needs to be carried out with a reasonable sense of calm. I have said that I am on alert, but reasonably calm", stated Bachelet.

The Chief of State indicated that measures are being taken by the government as well as the international market to prevent the situation from turning into a global recession.

"We are a serious country and we have said that even if no one is an island in this interconnected world, Chile is in the best possible shape to respond to a crisis", asserted the President.
