SANTIAGO.- After making it clear that he is not "slicing his veins in hopes of being a presidential candidate", the secretary general of the Organization of American States, José Miguel Insulza, has asserted that the candidate for the Renovación Nacional party, Sebastián Piñera, is a contender who could be defeated by a candidate from the center-left Concertación.
"With regards to Piñera, I will only say one thing: Yes, things look good for him, but he has never passed the 40% mark and with 40% in this country, you can't be elected", stated the former Minister of Interior.
Furthermore, the OAS secretary general indicated that the best way for the Concertación to win against Piñera again is by presenting only one candidate for the coalition.
"Piñera is perfectly beatable by a candidate from the Concertación that is conjointly backed by the coalition", he maintained.
For Insulza, the capital Piñera possesses as a candidate will not hold the same value once the municipal elections begin in October and the Concertación defines who will be on their presidential ticket.
