SANTIAGO.- Police, along with the East Metropolitan Public Prosecutor's Office, are currently investigating the robbery of an automatic cash machine that was yanked out of its foundation by a group of four or five individuals in the municipality of Macul.

According to police, the incident occurred just after 4:30AM this morning and there are currently two versions of how the robbery was carried out. The first version is that the suspects entered the Santander bank branch using the "moon landing" method to crash a truck through the front window panes, and then proceeded to tie ropes around the ATM machine and yank it with the vehicle until it became detached from its foundation.

The second version is that one of the individuals entered the ATM room and tied it up, and then used a truck to haul it out of the establishment.

After the robbery, the assailants managed to disappear with the machine, which held close to 56 million pesos since, according to Public Prosecutor Marcelo Acuña, the machine had been stocked just yesterday.

Acuña added that there is a video of the incident, which is being requested as evidence to assist OS-9 police officers in their investigation.
