SANTIAGO.- Close to 60 officers from the anti-theft department of the Police Investigations Bureau (PDI) in Maipú, along with other units, raided three homes early this morning in the Los Presidentes de Cerrillos and Valle Verde neighborhoods of Maipú as part of an investigation into a series of fast-food restaurant robberies in the area.

Police began the operation at 6:15 AM that ended with the arrest of two individuals who between August and the 29th of September of this year, robbed at least nine fast-food restaurants, including pizzerias and Chinese food establishments.

During the raids, which lasted close to an hour and half, police seized two fake guns, as well as jewelry, wallets, watches and stolen clothing.

According to sources, both of the individuals arrested have a record of previous armed robbery and home invasion charges; one of the men is a potential suspect in a case of stone-throwing at moving vehicle.

Before being booked on the charges, the suspects were questioned by an east metropolitan public prosecutor.
