SANTIAGO.- The Minister of Justice, Carlos Maldonado, denied that Civil Registry workers "bent" the government to their will following the agreement reached last night, which brought an end to the demonstration at the entity.

"Negotiation resumed on the condition that they would discontinue the strike and that is what we have been saying since the first day of the demonstration", Maldonado told Radio Cooperativa.

Maldonado insisted that the government's stance on the issue coincided with what had been proposed at the beginning, urging negotiation and work based on a tripartite board.

"I indicated to them that I believed the strike was an error, that things were going well with a tripartite board including the Ministry of Finance and the truth is that my point of view hasn't changed", asserted the minister. Maldonado added that the measure would be reinstated sometime this week.

Despite the agreements however, Maldonado acknowledged that the board still does not have a deadline to produce results, "although there is a desire to move forward as quickly as possible".
