SANTIAGO.- The Association of Urban Highway Concessionaries has emphatically rejected a proposal made by PPD members of Parliament to eliminate the TAG automatic toll system. The alternative proposed the use of photographs to charge drivers highway tolls.

While referring to the proposal on Radio Cooperativa, the president of the association, Herman Chadwick, stated that "the photograph system exists to occasionally catch drivers using the highway without TAG".

Chadwick also asserted that it would be useless to employ the system as a way to collect tolls from all users, due to the amount of work involved in processing the information.

The proposal made by Deputies Tucapel Jiménez and Ramón Farías stems from the high costs involved in replacing the TAG devices, many of which are now running out of battery power.
