SANTIAGO.- Eight individuals were left injured, and two in critical condition, after a chain collision that took place this morning at the intersection of Santa Rosa and Santa Ana in the municipality of San Ramón.
The accident occurred at 8:15 this morning, as two buses had stopped to pick up passengers at the aforementioned intersection. A third bus then crashed into the two other buses that were stopped, causing those two other buses to collide in a domino-like effect.
All three buses were carrying passengers at the time, who suffered varying degrees of injuries. Emergency Medical Service (SAMU) arrived at the scene of the crash along with fire-fighters from La Granja and La Pintana, who had to use a special machine to cut the driver out of the last of the three buses.
All of those injured were taken first to the San Ramón emergency medical service (SUC) where, depending upon the gravity of their injuries, they were then transferred to the Sótero del Río and Padre Hurtado hospitals.
Western-bound traffic along Santa Rosa avenue was halted after the accident due to the fact that one of the buses had suffered a ruptured fuel tank and had spilled fuel onto the highway.
