SANTIAGO.- Two days before revealing her intentions to run as a presidential candidate for her party, UDI Senator Evelyn Matthei has pointed out the serious nature of her candidacy by clarifying that she is willing to take on the challenge through the first round and even indicated that she might participate in a primary.

"Our party has to be prepared for every scenario possible, and one of the possible scenarios is to have two candidates from the Alianza", the Senator and former vice-president of her party told Radio Cooperativa.

With regards to her time frame, Matthei was steadfast in sticking to the date fixed by her party as the deadline to declare its presidential candidate: April of next year.

While insisting that whomever her party chooses as their candidate has the ability to defeat the National Renovation representative, Sebastián Piñera, the senator said that she was confident that she has the same level of virtues and strengths as the business tycoon.

Matthei also declared that Piñera and her "have a similar background, we posses the same level of education, we are both economists, we both have a long history of public service".

Nevertheless, Matthei indicated that despite the similarities in their political careers, there are also important differences in their approaches when it comes to doing what is best for the country.
