SANTIAGO.- Fabián Orellana is the hottest soccer player of the moment. Just when Jorge Valdivia had been expected to save the day for Chile in their match against Argentina, Marcelo Bielsa made a surprising move and put a small-framed forward from Audax Italiano in to play. Fabián Orellana had only played two friendly matches with "La Roja" but had been a principal player in those games.

The San Joaquín native, weighing in at only 65 kilos and a mere 169 centimeters tall, lit up the National Stadium as well as all of those watching the match on television last night, impressing even those fans who had feared his "lack of power".

"A White Robinho", "Poet", "Fabi", "Robinho of La Florida" – These are just some of the various nicknames that have been given to Fabián Ariel Orellana Valenzuela, the 22 year- old young man that debuted with club Audax in 2005 and has only had a professional contract for one year.

A father of two, Orellana lived a small town life in Puente Alto and began playing in dirt soccer fields. He was initially swept up by the Real Dinamo club with Colo Colo refusing to take him, claiming he was gangly.

His path was a difficult one from the very beginning. In 2005, Orellana had to begin as a lend-player for Deportivo Doñihue, along with two other teammates.

Orellana stood out on the amateur team and toned up his small body, which some say resembles that of Robinho – the Brazilian player for Manchester City, whose birthday falls on the 25th of January, just two days before that of Chile's new "Most Valuable Player".
