Police arrest suspects linked to attempted ATM machine robbery on Chicureo

On October 3rd of this year, the individuals allegedly tied up the cash dispenser with chains and hauled it off its foundation with a truck. The suspects fled the scene after sighting an approaching patrol car.

SANTIAGO.- Officers from the OS-9 unit of police arrested five individuals early this morning, four of whom have been linked to a case of attempted robbery involving an ATM machine at an Edwards Citi bank branch located at 800 Chicureo, in the municipality of Colina.


According to Major Mauricio Valdivia, the incident occurred on October 3rd of this year when the individuals arrived and used chains to tie up the ATM before dragging it off its foundation with a truck. After noticing a police vehicle nearby, however, the suspects made a hasty getaway and left the machine some three meters from its base.


Those arrested have been identified as Rodrigo Díaz Flores (19), Alejandro Díaz Carrasco (34), Hugo Castillo Vidal (21) as well as a 15 year old boy with the initials A.G.S.


Police also apprehended 21 year-old Luis Díaz, who had an arrest warrant for armed robbery.


The suspects were detained while on their way to Colina. Police found the men travelling together in a Peugeot 206 vehicle, which they believe was going to be used in another robbery attempt.


The arrested were taken to the Colina Courthouse to be formally arraigned on charges.
