SANTIAGO.- While emphasizing the crucial nature of the elections in the life of a democratic country, the Undersecretary of Interior, Felipe Harboe urged citizens to participate in the municipal elections this Sunday as a way to freely express their political opinions.
According to Radio Cooperativa, Harboe asked Chileans to take part in the "democratic celebration" that the elections represent and indicated that they are the best way "that people can freely and spontaneously express themselves and choose their leaders".
Harboe also stressed the sense of civic pride that should be held by those who have been named electoral monitors to ensure that the process begins as early as possible so that it may end on time.
The undersecretary explained that as long as the polls are open at 7:00 AM, they may close nine hours later, which would mean that the first general count would be at approximately 7:30 PM.
With regards to the final figures, Harboe stated that the last count would be revealed at 11:30 PM.
