Bad times for Suazo: On the brink of losing starter status in Monterrey

Following his poor goal scoring performance this season, the Chilean soccer player could be on the bench this weekend.

SANTIAGO.- Humberto Suazo is not doing very well in Mexico. The Chilean player, the latest goal-maker in the Mexican tournament, has had a slow season with few scores and less than notable performances. Additionally, his team, Monterrey, has not done very well.

The situation could be starting to catch up with the Chilean striker as his coach, Ricardo La Volpe, may have decided to leave him on the bench this weekend.

This was the indication made by the Mexican press at least, who spoke of a possible substitution for the former Colo Colo and Audax Italiano forward.

La Volpe is trying various formulas to get his team out of the slump, but so far none have worked. The coach has made changes to the goal keeper starters and moved defense players to the midfield - but still nothing.

It may now be Suazo's turn after having gone completely unnoticed in the 2008 Apertura tournament.

The possibility is not so far-fetched. During a practice session this Tuesday at the El Barrial sports complex, the coach used Jared Brogetti and Carlos Ochoa in the offense.

Suazo did not take the field, but rather trained in the gym.
