SANTIAGO.- Following the surprising resignation of Soledad Alvear from her position as president of the DC party in the aftermath of numerous defeats in the municipal elections, the vice-president of the party, Ximena Rincón, has assured that the former presidential candidate from her coalition was not the only one responsible and claims that what happened was "a slap on the wrist to everyone".
"There are many of us who are responsible (…). The analysis that we should be making as a party is one of reflection, to look at what we are doing wrong, what the citizens are telling us", Rincón told Radio Cooperativa.
Amidst the current internal crisis within the DC, the party's vice-president stated that Alvear's decision to resign was a gesture that showed her grace and interest for the good of the party and said that it is now necessary to open the doors for new leaders.
"We have to understand that we must open spaces for new generations that are willing to take on new challenges in a generous environment", stated Rincón.
