Driver dies alter crashing vehicle into barrier on Autopista del Sol

SANTIAGO.- A 50 year old man, identified as Luis Álvarez Chahué, was killed after crashing his truck into a barrier wall along the Autopista del Sol, near Calle Bascuñán Guerrero.

The incident occurred as the driver was travelling east on the highway and lost control of his vehicle which caused the vehicle to drive over the median and collide with a wall.

Both fire-fighters and emergency medical service (SAMU) personnel attempted to help the man by performing CPR, but were unable to revive him.

With regards to the cause of the accident, the SIAT unit of police has not ruled out the possibility that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel or suffered a heart attack.
