SANTIAGO.- Following the resignation of the president of the Cristian Democracy (DC), Soledad Alvear, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alejandro Foxely, expressed that he hopes the decision was made as a "moral gesture" that will help put an end to internal problems within the party.
"I hope that what she has done can serve as a moral gesture to bring the party back together, so that people can end their petty old disputes over miniscule matters, so that there are no personal interests or attempts to get ahead at the cost of other leaders, and finally I hope we can create a more team-oriented setting", the Chancellor and former party leader told Radio Cooperativa.
With regards to the former president, the minister acknowleged that he admires her courage and the generosity she demonstrated in her resignation.
Furthermore, Foxely stated that the people are not going to allow the DC to get lost in the "dust kicked up" by difficult times and indicated that the party will need to be united in order to face the challenges ahead.
With regards to the party goals, the minister explained that the DC not only hopes to maintain unity, but also wants to build agreements, join forces and "always be capable of confronting conflicts from a more objective standpoint".
