TEMUCO.- Police intervened in a new attempted bomb attack against trucks on the Temuco bypass. Two hooded individuals were detained this morning, one of whom was reportedly a 16 year old boy, who were carrying 20 cans filled with 20 liters of gasoline.
Both of the individuals arrested were taken to the Penal Court (Tribunal de Garantía) to be booked. The public prosector is expected to prolong their detention in an attempt to add further charges to the defendants' cases and gather evidence to mount a formal investigation against the assailants for arson.
Both of the hooded individuals managed to throw one molotov bomb at two police patrol vehicles that were circulating in the area, some 15 kilometers from Temuco.
The attack prompted an extensive chase, which ended in the arrest of both individuals. Meanwhile, law enforcement officers continue to search for a third person involved in the incident who may be hiding out in the nearby Mapuche villages.
This is the first time that police have been able to caputre hooded suspects red handed as they set fire to trucks along Ruta 5 Sur in the Ninth Region.
