SANTIAGO.- Adding to a series of recent robberies at gas stations and pharmacies over the last few days in the eastern part of the city, a suspect reportedly held up a Brink's armored safe-truck this morning in Las Condes.

According to Radio Cooperativa, the incident took place after the suspect, who witnesses say acted alone, fired shots at the vehicle in an effort to steal the money inside.

After shooting, the man was able to flee the scene with 20 million pesos in cash. According to preliminary reports, the suspect took advantage of the fact that the truck guards had exited the vehicle momentarily, threatening them with a gun.

The robbery took place on the corner of Ebro and Zúrich, in front of an AFEX currency exchange office, where the money was being delivered.

After taking the cash, the man fled towards El Bosque Norte, prompting police to believe that there may have been one or more accomplices waiting for him there.
