TEMUCO. - An explosive device fashioned out of a 1-kilo capacity fire extinguisher filled with black gun powder and a fuse was detonated last night at approximately 11:30 PM in Temuco.

The bomb was placed on a high-voltage post outside of the Porvenir neighborhood in the northern part of the city.  Mayor Alfonso Hernández of the Second Police Station of Temuco stated that an anonymous call was made to report the loud noise caused by the explosion, which prompted alert and concern among local residents.

Special Police Force officials were sent to the scene. No pamphlets alluding to those responsible for the act were found.

Meanwhile, anthropology students belonging to the Universidad Católica de Temuco: Jhonatán Vega Gajardo (26), Fénix Delgado Ahumada (22) and a 17 year-old boy with the initials R.H.I. will be formally charged today at the penalty court of Temuco after they planned to launch an attack against trucks traveling along Ruta 5 Sur.  The three individuals were arrested last Friday after they threw a Molotov bomb at police vans that were located in the same area where hooded suspects had set fire to another vehicle in February of this year.
