Police officer injured in car accident

SANTIAGO.-  A police officer identified as Juvenal Roa del Valle is in serious condition after a traffic accident in the municipality of Recoleta, where the official lost control of his car and collided with another vehicle.

Officer Roa del Valle, who belongs to the Seventh Police Station of Renca, was on medical leave and lost control as he was driving a red Mazda automobile along Avenida Dorsal, causing him to hit a tree head-on.

Roa was rushed to the San José Hospital and then taken to the police hospital, where he was diagnosed with a serious lung injury as a result of the crash, and a nasal fracture, caused by the direct impact of the man’s head against the windshield of the car.  Roa has been listed in serious, but stable condition.

Neighbors and witnesses say the accident was caused by the large amount of potholes located along Avenida Dorsal, since this is not the first time an accident of this nature has occurred there.
