SANTIAGO.- The deputy and member of the board of directors for the UDI, Felipe Salaberry, decided to abstain from an activity he was invited to at the La Moneda presidential palace today to protest President Michelle Bachelet's absence from the inauguration ceremony of a memorial stature dedicated to Jaime Guzmán.

"I had confirmed my attendance yesterday, but I think that when we found out that the President had decided to give priority to her world and not take a step forward to foster national reconciliation, I considered it would be inappropriate for me to go to La Moneda", he argued.

The event that Salaberry had been invited to was the signing of a tripartite agreement for the national "Trabajo Decente" (Decent Work) program of the International Labor Organization.

In Salaberry's opinion, the attitude displayed by the administration, especially by the President "is unfavorable, it belittles the State representation that an activity such as the inauguration of a memorial should have".

Salaberry also accused the government of attempting to keep past issues alive.
