SANTIAGO.- After assuring that trash pick up in Santiago had completely returned to normal, the Intendent of the city, Alejandra Váquez, was forced to back track in her statement and clarify that the service had been working at partial capacity due to current National Association of Public Employees (ANEF) strike.

Vásquez told radio ADN that authorities are working to address the complaints filed by residents, who claim that the streets have become filled with bags of garbage and trash containers overflowing with waste that has not been picked up by the garbage trucks.

While referring to the matter, the Intendent also stated that “I have taken notes and we will call the municipality right now in order to normalize the trash situation for the residences of Santiago”.

Vásquéz also explained that “a service was hired to rent five trucks and pick up garbage in the municipality of Santiago Centro as well as in the neighborhoods with the most business activity, which they did yesterday and will continue to do today”.
