Driver abandons car in Vitacura following collision

SANTIAGO.- A strange occurrence was reported this morning following a traffic accident in the municipality of Vitacura, where the driver of one of the vehicles involved in a crash abandoned his car and fled the scene.

The driver, who has yet to be identified, was driving an Audi A3, which he left on the opposite side of the road, causing a major traffic jam near the Tabancura bridge.

According to Radio Cooperativa, the man had been traveling north at a high velocity along the Tabancura bridge when he crashed into an electrical post and then spun several times as the car veered off of the road and ended up on the along the opposite side of the street.

According to preliminary information, the rear bumper of the car, as well as the shock system, became detached and were found approximately 100 meters away.

The gasoline tank also suffered significant damage, causing fuel to leak at the scene of the crash.
