Police operative leaves one man dead and three officers injured in Quilicura

As officers detained two suspects, a mob began to attack them with sticks, stones and gunshots.

SANTIAGO.- One man was left dead, three police officers were injured and a minor was arrested during a police operative that ended with an angry mob of people attacking the law enforcement officers who were in the process of arresting two individuals that had allegedly robbed a couple in the Quilicura neighborhood of San Enrique.


According to police, the incident began at 12:10 AM when officials from the 49º Commissary of Quilicura were performing a routine patrol of the area and received reports that a couple was being robbed in the neighborhood of San Enrique.


After arriving at the scene they proceeded to detain the thieves, but were attacked after a mob of people arrived to foil the arrest.


The police were attacked with sticks, stones and even gunshots. Amidst the chaos, Mario Alejandro Morales Rozas, who was one of the suspects being arrested, was shot and killed at the scene.


According to witnesses, the shooting increased the intensity of the mob attack, which resulted in three police officers suffering injuries of varying degrees. All of the officers were taken to the police hospital.


Meanwhile, the other assailant, a 15 year-old boy with the initials M.E.T.O., was arrested and taken to the 49º Commissary of Quilicura.
