SANTIAGO.- Police from the 49º Commissary of Quilicura arrested a group of five minors and one adult today after they burglarized a Puma sports store located in space 2 of the Centro Norte shopping center located at the intersection of Panamericana Norte and Américo Vespucio.

According to the night security guard for the store, Eduardo Lorca, the suspects arrived at approximately 5:00 AM in two vehicles. Several of the assailants then got out of the vehicles and the guard heard a crashing noise as the thieves threw stones through the front store window panes in order to gain entry to the business.

The security alarm was activated when the windows were broken, which allowed police officers, who were only 80 meters away at the time, to arrive swiftly at the scene and catch the suspects red-handed.

According to Lorca, the store had be recently inaugurated on Monday after several weeks of repairs and renovations.

Following the arrest, the criminals were taken to the police station where they were turned over to the Central North Public Prosecutor's Office while police continue to investigate whether or not the group has performed similar robberies in other areas of the city.
