Ministry of Health guarantees emergency medical attention amidst public employee strike

The Undersecretary of Medical Services, Julio Montt, has assured that they have the support of the Civil Defense forces from Arica to Punta Arenas.

SANTIAGO.- In the middle of numerous problems that have led to a strike within the public employee sector to demand a salary increase, the Undersecretary of Medical Services, Julio Montt, assured that emergency services are guaranteed.


Montt also indicated that the Ministry of Health has done everything possible to coordinate work shifts among employees in order to prevent more serious inconveniences for patients.


During an interview with Radio ADN, Montt stated, "we are working with all of the medical services and hospital directors to guarantee that emergency services, urgent interventions and medical attention for those in the intensive care units will be given to those in need without jeopardizing the patients' safety".


Montt also said that the ministry has defined the number of workers necessary at medical centers in order to offer emergency services during the strike.


"We have the support of the Civil Defense forces from Arica to Punta Arenas, as well as a collaboration plan with the Armed Forces to support us if necessary", Montt stated.
