SANTIAGO.- The Secretary General of the UDI, Víctor Pérez, said that "the government has made a sad spectacle of itself and President Bachelet has an obligation to check on work done by here ministers during the negotiation with public sector employees, which was badly handled right from the start by the heads of Finance, Andrés Velasco, and Labor, Osvaldo Andrade".

Pérez indicated that "Velasco took two months to negotiate and didn't do a thing; he left everything until the last minute thinking that he could surprise the workers with accomplished facts, taking the situation to the limit and resulting in the consequences that we are all aware of".

The UDI secretary general stated, "now the Minister of Finance must take responsibility for the losses his failure to negotiate have caused the country".

"This whole incident is just one more piece of evidence showing that the Concertación has run out of ideas, that it has become unable to govern and that the country urgently needs a new leader", he declared.
