SANTIAGO.- Leaving their recent differences behind, the president of the PS, Camilo Escalona, and his PPD counterpart, Pepe Auth, met this morning and, while expressing their wish to overcome the unpleasant atmosphere that has been generated within the Concertación, also called for former President Ricardo Lagos and OAS Secretary General José Miguel Insulza to decide soon whether or not they will compete in the coalition’s primary elections.
“I hope this will be cleared up soon regarding what will happen in the future, it is not only what I personally want, it is also what the public and all those belonging to the Concertación want”, Escalona stated.
Meanwhile, Auth indicated that both leaders had agreed upon the need to establish a “not so far off” deadline in order for the candidates to register for the group’s internal election process.
Escalona added that the deadline is an “obvious necessity”, since, in the case of both Inzulza and Lagos, “neither has declared their intention to run for President of the Republic explicitly, formally, and in a direct manner”.
