SANTIAGO.- The former National Chief of Crimes Against Property and the Metropolitan Robbery Investigation Brigade (BIROM) of the Federal Police Investigations Bureau (PDI), Trevor Oyarzún, was arrested this morning in connection with the so-called "robbery of the century", which took place in 2006 when a group of individuals managed to steal $922 million pesos from a Brink's security truck at the Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport.

The former sub-prefect of the PDI –who was the head of the aforementioned unit until June of this year— has been charged with the crime of embezzlement which will be added to another charge for paying to have an alcohol test altered by the Legal Medical Service (SML).

Along with the capture of Oyarzún, active commissary Jorge Sánchez was also arrested on charges of embezzling public funds.

Both men were apprehended at their residences by officials from the fifth department of PDI Internal Affairs in response to a warrant that was issued by the Seventh Penalty Court of Santiago. Neither man resisted arrest.
