SANTIAGO.- Despite the fact that Santiago residents awoke to a cold and cloudy morning today, which is quite a contrast to the high temperatures that have been registered in the area recently, the on-duty head of the Chilean Meteorological Department, Luis Salazar, has said that the conditions should not last beyond Friday.
Salazar stated that the current weather conditions "are totally normal and are due to a regulation process. This phenomenon always occurs when there is a lot of heat in the central valleys, where humidity accumulates and forms fog in the area, which causes this type of situation".
The meteorologist also said that the current conditions "will change throughout the day, especially between noon and two o'clock PM", which will allow for a high temperature of 22ºC. Nevertheless, Salazar explained that meteorological conditions could vary over the next few hours.
Salazar added that the preliminary forecast for tomorrow calls for cloudy conditions with morning fog which will give way to partly-cloudy skies with a high temperature of 21ºC.
