SANTIAGO.- The Bureau of Police Investigations (PDI) has called the arrest of Commissary Jorge Sánchez Sandoval and former National Chief of Crimes Against Property, Trevor Oyarzún, "unfortunate". Oyarzún was detained in connection to a robbery of $922 million pesos from a Brink's security truck in an incident that is known as "the robbery of the century".
Nevertheless, the National Chief of Public Affairs for the PDI, Álvaro Thiele, has asked people to remember that there are 9,300 officials that are performing their duties correctly.
"We are always undergoing rigorous internal control revisions and every time we come across evidence of a crime committed by someone from inside the organization, we offer all appropriate information to the Public Ministry", he emphasized.
The organization indicated by way of a press release that the two defendants have been turned over to the courts to be formally charged.
The PDI also said that it categorically rejects "all conduct contrary to the police code of ethics" and stressed that it "will continue to cooperate with the Public Ministry and the Justice Courts in any way necessary to offer more information for the investigation into the crimes".
