SANTIAGO.- A teenager has been turned over to the family court system after he was saved by police in the Santa Anita neighborhood in the municipality of Lo Prado. Neighbors had been trying to lynch the boy after he was accused of molesting a four year old girl.
According to Capitan Óscar Muñoz, an officer for the West City Police Station, the sexual assault allegedly took place last Wednesday while the boy was alone with the little girl at his family's apartment.
The little girl reported the incident to her grandmother, who then contacted police.
After the report was filed, several neighbors arrived at the young boy's home to attack him. The teen was rescued by police however, who then took him to the 44th Municipality Police Station, located on Avenida San Pablo.
According to Muñoz, the boy couldn't be charged under the Adolescent Criminal Responsibility Law, since he was 13 at the time of the incident and has only recently turned 14.
