SANTIAGO.- The senator and member of the Foreign Affairs Commission, Hernán Larraín, has stated that if Peruvian President Alan Garcia does not remove General Edwin Donayre from his position following recent statements the official made against Chile, the head of state will been seen as an accomplice.

"I think that today, after having reiterated the statements, if the President of Peru does not dismiss General Donayre, he is condoning his statements and that would be an extremely serious situation", Larrain told Radio Cooperativa.

While asserting that he does not regret his statements, the Peruvian army general also stated that he would not give in to political pressure from another country and therefore will not resign before December 5th.

"Here in Peru the authorities and the President of the Republic govern, we will not allow for external intervention or demands", the Peruvian general declared.

According to Larraín, Donayre must be sanctioned and said that if he is not, the controversy will damage relations between Chile and Peru, and discredit the Peruvian government.
