SANTIAGO.- A group of between 10 and 15 individuals took part in the latest ATM machine robbery early this morning, this time at the 27th kilometer of Ruta 5 Sur, in the Municipality of Calera de Tango.

According to Captain Cristián Montero, an officer from the South Metropolitan Police Station, the crime took place at 12:30AM, when the thieves arrived at the scene in a white van and tied up the cash dispenser with nylon ropes, which they used to pull the machine of off its base before fleeing the area.

Captain Montero added that, in order to commit the robbery, the suspects destroyed a front window pane with a blunt object they found outside.

The machine was located inside a mini-market at a Copec service station. There were three employees working at the time, who went unnoticed by the robbers after they hid themselves inside the establishment in fear of being attacked.

Officers from the Department of Theft of Police Investigations (LABOCAR) arrived at the scene to investigate and rope off the area.

Police are currently looking into whether the perpetrators, who are being actively pursued by law enforcement, used more than one vehicle in the robbery.
