SANTIAGO.- It couldn't have been any other way. José Luis Sierra will continue to work with the Unión Española despite having already announced his resignation.
The former team captain will now head the club's minor league as coach for the Under-18 division. "As a member of the board of directors, he will have a say in new hires", stated club president Jorge Segovia.
"I feel very proud and appreciative and I feel prepared for this new position. I am very excited, this is a great team to really work hard with and help develop under-18 soccer. For me this is an important step forward and it is something that I have been waiting for a long time", stated Sierra.
Sierra later added, "I think that things are being done well on the Unión Española; there is an important international project going on that is bringing the Unión back up to the level it deserves to be at. There were some high-pressure moments, but today we should distribute and take advantage of all of the resources that are available in a positive manner".
The former World Cup player clarified that he will be working closely with the major league team, but said that he will not be making technical decisions.
