SANTIAGO.- Considering the serious nature of the crime he is accused of, and to which he has already confessed, the Fourth Court of Appeals has decided to approve the continued custody of the former PDI head of robbery investigations, Trevor Oyarzún.
The ruling implies that, despite a court ruling in his favor on Monday of this week –when the court revoked the prison sentence for the crime of embezzlement of public funds— the former police chief will now continue to be held in custody for tampering with an alcohol blood test performed by the Legal Medical Service.
The judges of the Fourth Court argued that Oyarzún should stay in prison due to the severe nature of the corruption charges he is facing and insisted that, if freed, he could pose a threat to society.
Oyarzún's defense attorney, Verónica Rocca, voiced her disapproval for the ruling stating, "the defendant's attitude was not considered and it is really not right for him to have to remain in custody, considering the fact that he came forward on his own and has been entirely cooperative".
